Our Elementary School

Our goal at Traverse City Christian Elementary is twofold: to provide excellent teaching from a Christian perspective throughout all of our subject areas and to be a supportive extension of the family and the church by reinforcing Christian principles and values.

Our curriculum coheres with the State of Michigan Educational Objectives and includes reading, math, science, social studies, language arts, music, physical education and art. In addition, our Bible curriculum is designed specifically for each grade. Chapel is held twice per week, and prayer in the classroom is a regular part of our school day. We emphasize the importance of Christ-like living on an ongoing basis and participate in numerous mission and outreach projects throughout the year.

Kindergarten through 2nd Grade

Kindergarten is offered as a full day 5-days-per-week program. Grades K-2 use a phonics-based curriculum for reading development. Teachers recognize that children learn in a variety of ways and are sensitive to learning styles and maturity levels. Each child is carefully assessed throughout the year to monitor his or her progress. We communicate with parents on a continual basis to ensure a healthy cooperation between home and school.

Third Grade though Fifth Grade

Grades 3-5 encourage a growing independence and responsibility on the part of our students as they develop the ability to grasp a wider array of ideas. Organized sports are available in grades 4 and 5 as well as parent-led, after-school clubs and activities.

Our hope is that all of our students will grow and thrive as they deepen their understanding of God and His amazing creation.
